Retro Bowl cheats
The pro Retro Bowl players use advanced techniques that, if mastered, will let you play as if you are using cheat codes.
Find the 4 most common Retro Bowl cheats below:
- Dive to gain ground: Diving forward will give you a guaranteed 2 yards. Use this to your advantage at the goal line or 3rd & short.
- Improve WR catching: Aim slightly past your WR when using the bullet pass to increase his odds of catching the ball.
- Gain ground with your RB: Instead of running with your RB, wait until they are open, then toss the ball to them. This will let you gain up to 5 yards each time.
- Improve low star players: This one is specifically for QBs and receivers. QBs reliably complete 3-5 yard throws, while low star receivers consistently catch short passes. This is a great way to quickly gain ground.
Retro Bowl pro tips
You win in Retro Bowl by reading the field and reacting fast. You don't win by spamming deep throws. It comes from choosing the right option on every snap. Discover our tips below to play Retro Bowl like a pro.
Passing and scoring
Choosing the right pass matters more than throwing far. Know which throw fits the situation:
- Short throws (5–10 yards): The safest option. Keeps drives alive and limits interceptions.
- Medium throws: Best when a receiver beats a single defender cleanly.
- Deep throws: Only take these when coverage fully breaks.
Throw the ball before the receiver finishes the route. Early throws create space and reduce interception risk. Waiting too long lets defenders close the gap.
Most winning drives come from throws of 10 yards or less. Deep passes only work when your receiver clearly separates. If two defenders are already in position, take the short gain and reset the play.
Clock control basics
Clock control wins tight games.
Short passes and early dives let you drain time without losing yards.
When leading, aim to score with under 30-35 seconds left in the second and fourth quarters. This makes it very difficult for the opposing team to gain enough ground before the half ends.
If you trail late, throw toward the sideline to stop the clock. Every second matters.
Building the best team
You build strong teams through strategic upgrades. Managing a limited roster and your players' star ratings decides whether you can sustain winning seasons.
Start with smart player upgrades. Here are the most important payers to focus on upgrading first:
- Quarterback: Improves timing and control.
- Wide receivers: Create safer throwing windows.
- Running back: Adds control late in games.
Manage salary caps
You start with a salary cap of $150 million which is not enough to manage an entire team of 5 star players. So it's important to build a balanced team of offensive players to give your QB time to play and defensive players to help you out of tight situations.
You will be able to increase the cap to $175m by spending 100 Coaching Credit. But this will take 2-4 seasons to get.
Drafting, trading and releasing players
You control long-term success through team management. Top Retro Bowl players review their teams often to succeed.
- Draft: You need long-term value and cap space. Aim to draft younger players as they cost less and grow faster.
- Trade: You must trade if a player's cost is about to become too high.
- Release: When a player no longer fits your playstyle, it's time to release them. A change in your strategy should be reflected in your team's strengths.
Retro Bowl features
Retro Bowl is as much about playing football as it is about managing your team, upgrading facilities, improving morale of players and coaches and keeping your fans happy.
Core gameplay
- Offensive Control: You control every offensive play. Timing and team management decide whether a drive continues or ends.
- Weather Effects: Rain and wind make passing harder. This forces you to adjust throw power, aim safer routes, and avoid risky deep balls.
- Play Calling: Audibles and timeouts let you react when the defence shows something unexpected, helping you stay in control mid-drive.
Team management
- Roster Management: Draft, trade, and sign players under the $150m salary cap. Balancing here keeps multiple options open when plays break down.
- Player Morale: Low morale causes players to drop passes and miss throws. It can also impact the overall team morale if one player is particularly bad.
- Training: Improve your players' strength, stamina, kicking, and throwing. Each upgrade increases their star rating over time.
- Coaching Credits: By winning games you will earn Coaching Credits. These credits are used to upgrade everything in the game from the stadium, to staff hires and player attributes.
- Fan ratings: Keeping fans happy directly impacts how many Coaching Credits you will receive after winning a game. Higher support (66-100%) gives you 3 CC, mid-range (33-66%) gives 2 CC, and low support (0-33%) gives 1 CC.
Progression & goals
- Career Mode: Each season builds on the last. Smart upgrades make games easier over time, while bad decisions force tough rebuilds.
- Exhibition Game: Use an Exhibition Game to test plays and strategies without consequences on your career. The Retro Bowl 2 player mode is also found here. This can be accessed in the settings screen.
- Hall of Fame: The Hall of Fame lets you permanently save player stats so that you can view them even after they have retired. This is also where you view your achievements and statistics.
